Then I saw my face….

Filed under: Stephermendations — iamstepher @ 10:46 pm

Now I’m a believer!

After visiting my dermatologist last week and being assured that there is no topical beauty product (besides sunscreen) that will prevent the wrinkles on my forehead from getting bigger and more defined. NO MATTER HOW EXPENSIVE. I decided to go to Nieman Marcus in search of an uber expensive cream to prove her wrong.

I have been hearing a lot about Natura Bisse’s Inhibit – Dermalift

According to the website, this is the only topical product that you can use instead of Botox. Another article I read mentioned that within one year of this product being released, the company has grown by 50%. “I’ll take it!” I thought. Until I saw the price…. $400 an ounce.

Inhibit-Dermafill
Say good-bye to needles—an antiaging alternative to all micro-injections like Botox and Restylane.• An alternative to more invasive procedures.• Relaxes muscle contractions and keeps expression lines from re-forming with a double dose of Octamioxyl™ at a 40% concentration.• With Dermafill complex at 10% concentration, fills in and smoothes out wrinkles through a layering process that works from deepest to the most superficial layers of skin.

SO…Needless to say, I did not make the investment of $400 a month for a few wrinkles. Instead I decided to go with the Clarasonic Mia. The Clarisonic is marketed as a face cleanser but it is also great at getting rid of wrinkles and fine lines, buffing out uneven skin tones and making your skin glow. I didn’t believe it all at first but decided to try it because they have a policy that allows you to return it for a full refund if you are not satisfied.

I am satisfied! It might be in combination with the new skin cream I am using but I am completely impressed with the Mia. Mia is the small, portable version of the clarasonic.

For all of you that are interested, this is my skin care regimine- morning and night.

Shoes

Filed under: Quality Over Quantity, Stephermendations — iamstepher @ 6:24 pm

When it comes to clothes and shoes I prefer to go for quality over quantity. I don’t mind investing a little money in something that is well made and that I can wear a lot for a long time.

A few examples that I thought I might share:

These are shown in the picture and also at the L.K. Bennett website. They are the MOST comfortable high heals I have ever owned and they go with everything!

The Jane boot by Frye. I have included my own picture because the one on the website does not do it justice. I purchased the (Redwood color) about two years ago and have worn them literally 200 days out of the year since then. They have held up so nicely and now that they have softened up they do this great little slouch. In the Spring/Summer I wear these with shorts, dresses, leggings, etc. In the Fall/Winter I wear them with tights and dresses, leggings and sweaters and Skinny jeans. They look so great with Dark jeans!

The best part is, for us shorties, they give a little two inch boost in height without sacrificing the comfort. I have walked 5+ miles in these in one day and only at the very end did they start to bother me..and I think the blame probably should have been on my crappy socks rather than the shoes.

I just bought the black pair a few months ago so you can tell they look a little taller than the brown. These are the best investments in shoes I have ever made. They will last for at least another 5 years and they never go out of style. Too bad they never go on sale or I would probably get more colors.

Sew it Seams

Filed under: Uncategorized — iamstepher @ 6:13 pm

I have decided to enroll in a sewing class and I couldn’t believe how difficult it was so find one in the City. So as I do for my Doctor, Car, Dentist, Shopping, Orthodontist, seamstress, etc. I am heading out West.

Sew it Seams on Manchester has a great program that will teach me the basics and I can progress from there. I am so excited to start making my own clothes and most of all (because I am so short) doing my own alterations!

Sewing Basics I
Tuesdays, 6-9 pm April 6-27 (4 weeks) $80, Cindy Schaper
If you’re a true beginner, this is your class. You’ll learn how to:
use a sewing machine;
read a pattern;
cut out the fabric;
and sew your garment.
You’ll learn to do things right, from the start. But you’ll also learn exactly where your choices start.

Not as bad as it looks- Japan

Filed under: Uncategorized — iamstepher @ 5:48 am

I know this might look bad but I just had to post it. See below for the explanation.

Two strangers just hanging out… There is some craze going on in Japan with dressing up like and Anime character and getting your picture taken in different settings. Oh yea, all while having a tea party.

I wanted to see what all the fuss was about and Andy so kindly went along for the ride. Most of the girls come in plain clothes and then choose from a huge selection of costumes. I am technically a big girl in Japan so I had to go with the only costume that fit. Otherwise I would have gone as a cheerleader to my photo shoot. The idea is that you have a girls tea party in one of the different settings. It was very awkward but ended up being kind of fun. Especially when they started handing me props. The little violin was my favorite. The best part was that they couldn’t figure out why Andy and I were laughing so hard. Apparently this is all completely normal in Harajuku.

GooGoo for GaGa

This will be Adhar and I in one week. On a whim we decided to use Frequent Flyer miles and Marriott points to go to London and see Lady Ga Ga in concert. I have never been to London and I am super excited.

This is a preview of what we will be doing…..

LIPSTICK QUEEN

Ok, I know I said this blog was going to be about food but maybe it will be about more than that. This is my new favorite find.

About the company: Lipstickqueen.com
Its featured on gilt.com this week for half off. Mystery is my favorite!

“If an eighteen-year-old girl’s search for the ideal matte lipstick can turn into a multimillion-dollar company, anything is possible. When Poppy King finished high school, all she had to show for herself were some lackluster grades and a hundred and one ways to get out of phys ed. Within three years, however, she became the president of her highly successful lipstick brand, Poppy Industries.”

Ruth’s Diner – Salt Lake City, UT

Filed under: Food — iamstepher @ 4:08 am

Ruth’s Diner is pretty famous in Salt Lake- thanks to Kristen for this great recommendation. Ruth’s is up a canyon about 3 miles with the most beautiful view of the mountains. It was too dark for me to snap any pictures but it was stunning. I started my dinner out with a spicy bloody Mary. Boy was it SPICY and I am Mexican so I can usually take it. It was really great but they forgot to put salt around the rim so I didn’t enjoy it as much as I should have. The service was REALLY REALLY GREAT and so was the food.

If you google Ruth’s Diner you will be flooded with posts raving about the amazing biscuits at Ruth’s. My Friend Kristen lived in Salt Lake 6 years ago and she still raves about these. Kristen and everyone else was spot on! The best I have ever had.
