I need my stitch fix!

Filed under: Fashion, Stephermendations, Uncategorized — iamstepher @ 4:09 am

I am on a waiting list to get my first shipment from stitch fix.  I have been on the waiting list for 2 weeks and still haven’t gotten my ship date notification.  The good news is, Stitch Fix just received $4.75 million in funding to expand and help people like me get their shipments in a timely manner.

So what is Stitch Fix?  Stitch Fix is a subscription-based personal shopping program that is completed completely online and delivered right to your door and it only costs $20!  For most of us, hiring a personal stylist is too expensive for regular use.  Stitch Fix allows you to use their technology to create a personalized profile based on details about your body and style like body shape (bust, hips and shoulders),  size, budget and style (bohemian, classic, preppy, etc.).  Stitch Fix also shows you pictures of outfits and accessories and you rate what you like best.  Each item they send has a price point of about $65, unless you ask for more expensive items.

Based on your taste, the Stitch Fix stylist sends you a box of five items for the user to try on.  The user keeps and pays for only the items they like and sends back the items they do not like.  The $20 subscription fee is credited towards any purchases, but is kept by Stitch Fix as a styling fee if you send everything back. The company keeps track of everything you keep and return and also allows you to customize your next order (think, more green and more accessories please).

The coolest thing about Stitch Fix is that it gets better and more personalized with use.  Each time you keep any of the 5 items delivered to you, the stylist is better able to customize your next shipment.

I will update you when I receive my shipment.  Maybe I will even make an un-boxing video.

Sweater Pin Obsession

Filed under: Fashion, Stephermendations — iamstepher @ 4:45 pm

I am banning myself from buying any more sweater pins on eBay until I learn to properly bid on things. I accidentally won over bid and won all of my eBay auctions last week and I now have about 45 sweater pins to add to my wardrobe. Because of this, I am forcing myself to wear a different one every day. I also tried to put together a few monochromatic looks like Emma on Glee.

Here is what I have come up with so far………

Emma Pillsbury is my idol

Filed under: Celebrity Stalker, Fashion — iamstepher @ 6:45 pm

I totally love Glee! You may think that I love it because of the amazing beautiful voice of Leah Michelle, the great cast of other characters, the perfectly crafted mix of pop and classic song/dance numbers or the drama. Yes, I love all of that but most of all, I adore the wardrobe of the character Emma Pillsbury.

Emma is the guidance counselor who is always dressed super feminine and preppy in the best possible way. The style is kind of quirky/old fashion and it’s just perfect. I wish I could dress like this. LC- if you are reading this, she dresses like you. And she also has red hair!

I have included a few images below. My main reason for posting this is because I am desperate to find one of the accessories that she has worn a few times. It’s a sweater clip. A little chain that clips both sides of a cardigan together. I will be forever grateful if someone can find this for me. Enjoy the pictures below.

Fall 2010 and fur

Filed under: Fashion — iamstepher @ 12:59 am

Just like the fashion industry wants me to be, I am super into fur right now. In June I picked up a fox tail and have been wearing it on my purse for the past few months.

Last summer, while were were in Tokyo, a ton of girls were wearing cat ears and animal tails. I have been in search for the perfect pair of ears ever since. Well, I think I found them….. You can find me in Moscow wearing these proudly in the next few weeks. Hopefully the people there are more fashion forward than in St. Louis.

I left my heart in Indi…..

Peanut Butter + Burger = True Love

I had to go to Indianapolis last weekend for a nursing conference -part of the J.O.B. As you can imagine, I was not thrilled about spending my weekend, beautiful weather and all, in crappy Indianapolis. Boy was I a fool. Who knew Indi is the home of the motor speedway peanut butter burger!!

Though I was only in the area long enough to enjoy two meals, I managed to squeeze in 3 versions of this beautiful concoction that was dreamt up by Elvis Presley himself.

The first was a beautiful 1/2 lb burger called the Elvis. It had cheese, mayo, bacon, peanut butter and fried bananas on a soft white bun. I split it with a friend and felt surprisingly great afterward. Somehow is did not taste as decadent as it sounded…which I thought was a good thing.

The second was a peanut butter and jelly burger. I ordered this through room service and it arrived a little cold and over cooked. It was good but it had grape jelly on it and I prefer strawberry. Bummer….

The last peanut butter burger is one that I will not soon forget. Pictured above, it included (from the bottom up):
1) heavily buttered roll
2)gobs of peanut butter
3)1/2 lb of the fattiest beef patty I have ever tasted (I could actually feel the grease oozing down my throat) Kind of….
4) Mayo (Isn’t this a little unnecessary?)
6) jalapenos
7) Bacon
8) Onion Rings

I am embarrassed to say that even though it was so rich and I felt like a glutinous pig, I devoured the entire thing. QUICKLY. I was with a group of work friends and decided to walk back to the conference rather than cab it with the rest of them in hopes of working off a few calories. I ensured them that I would hurry as to not be late for our next session of the conference.

If I would have planned ahead for this, I would have been sure to wear comfy shoes and pants with an elastic waistband. Instead, I was wearing a pant suit that I bought a size to small hoping to drop a few lbs. with a very restricting top. The bright sun was shining down like a spotlight and my four-inch heals started to feel like stilts as my knees buckled with every step. A wave a nausea came over me and though it was only about 75 degrees outside, I felt as if I were in the pits of hell. The chirping birds were spectators laughing and pointing at me and the street signs began to play tricks on me as I suddenly realized I was lost. I was drenched in sweat and self loathing thinking of the 4 hours of pain that I would have to go through when I arrived back at the conference. How could I face my coworkers who had just chosen health salads. How could I have done this to myself!

Some how I managed to find my way back to the conference and the cool air conditioning quickly took me from hot and sweaty to wet and freezing. Rather than thinking about speaking with customers my mind wandered back to that beautiful burger. The beef was so tender and perfectly cooked. The peanut butter so perfectly complimented the jalapenos. Oh My Gosh- I could totally go for another one right now I began to think.

Back to reality: There was either some sort of mind altering chemical in that burger, or I am loosing my mind because I have not been able to get it out of my thoughts since leaving Indi. Fattening food is addictive people!! I believe it.
