The Hills Finale

Filed under: Uncategorized — iamstepher @ 2:57 am

I am close to tears as I write this post.  Ok, I am exaggerating, but I am very disappointed in my beloved Marriott Hotels.  They do not subscribe to MTV so rather than sitting in my Salt Lake City Hotel room eating up every juicy minute of the Hills series finale, I am forced to read my friends tweets and search for the occasional YouTube clip.

Perez Hilton posted a pretty good video of Spencer Pratt trying to crash the party.  What a freak!

My Desk

Filed under: Uncategorized — iamstepher @ 3:06 pm

I was recently asked to submit my desk to the blog From your Desk and I thought I would give you a sneak peek at what I have. The blog gives a great perspective into the lives of those that work from home or those that have to create a work space out of practically nothing. There are desks made out of closets, kitchen tables and Elfa Shelving (mine). You can tell so much about someone by their desk.

Don’t judge all of my clutter. It started out as collecting something every time I would travel. Back in the day when I rarely did, this was fine, but now that I am on a plane at least twice a month it has gotten a little out of hand. What do you think?

Shout out to Kate Donnelly, the blogs author.

Food carts coming to a city near you

Filed under: Food — iamstepher @ 5:10 pm

With each new trip to the West Coast I am noticing more and more food carts/trucks. I absolutely love street food and each one has better food than the last. Depending on the city and the area, there are a variety of foods, with Portland having the most. Check out the tacos I had in San Francisco last week.

With the new secret Pi truck in the Central West End, I am hoping St. Louis is the next city to join the revolution.

Have you seen the latest infomercial for the iRenew bracelet? It looks like it is going to work as well as the Fast Abs belt that guaranteed a 6 pack to anyone willing to pay $19.99.

Master Cleanse = total failure

Filed under: Uncategorized — iamstepher @ 8:04 pm

On the second night of the cleanse I totally freaked out and made myself dinner.  I had Pasta, french fries and dessert.

  I hate myself.

After talking it out with a friend  who has done this before, she made me realize that you can’t go from pigging out every day to eating almost nothing.  That explains the hallucinations.

Day 3 I decided to add in a smoothie for breakfast, which consist of:

1/2 cup blueberries

1 scoop whey powder

1 banana

1 scoop powdered wheat grass

1 and 1/2 cups of coconut milk

I am also allowing myself fresh vegetables for dinner.  I am rationalizing these additions to the cleanse by quoting last weeks yoga class instructor.   When an older man in class couldn’t finish a pose, she gave him a little block to help and said “It’s important to modify your practice to make it work for you”.  I couldnt agree more!

I feel so much better and even though I feel a little bit hungry during the day, I have so much energy.  It’s really amazing how great I feel.  I will continue to check in….

The Master Cleanse – Day 2

Filed under: Uncategorized — iamstepher @ 2:45 pm

After a long week of pigging out in San Francisco and New York, I have decided it is time to cleanse my body of all of these “toxins:.  Not really.  After weeks of eating whatever I wanted I came home feeling like I never want to eat again.  I thought this would be the perfect time to try the Master Cleanse.  I have always wanted to see what the fuss was all about.

I spent yesterday preparing for the detox by only having liquids.  I also snuck in an apple at 4 PM because I literally felt like I was going to pass out.  I generally consume 1,500 calories per day and yesterday I had 400.

This morning I started the actual Cleanse, which will consist of 6 glasses of lemonade (recipe below) and a ton of water.  The other websites say you should do it for at least 10 days and up to 30.  I am realistic and already on the small side so I am shooting for 3 days of nothing but lemonade.  Yesterday was pretty rough so I am not optimistic.  I will update!

Cleanse Lemonade Recipe: Single serving

  • 2 Tablespoons of organic lemon Juice (about 1/2 a Lemon)
  • 2 Tablespoons of Organic grade B maple syrup (I looked all over for this and ended up going with Organic Grade A Maple Syrup.  Isn’t Grade A better anyway?)
  • 1/10 Teaspoon Cayenne pepper powder (or as much as you can take)
  • Ten ounces of filtered water

    Tot eating contest- Bar Louie

Filed under: Food — iamstepher @ 3:41 am

How would you reward someone for eating 4 lbs of free tater tots in 6 minutes?  Naturally, your first thought would be money, fame, gifts…right?  Bar Louie had a better idea.  They decided to give the winner a year of free tater tots.  Awesome!

This year marked Bar Louie’s 3rd annual “rock the tot” competition and I had the pleasure of being a part of the cheering section for my friend, Joshua Katz.  Josh used the method of dipping the tots in a glass of water and then smashing them into his mouth. After a huge dinner of fettucine alfredo, Josh ended up eating 3 lbs 4 oz of tots and took 3rd place.

What do you get for eating 3 lbs 4 ozs of free tots? A stomach ache and hand shake. Way to go Josh!
